Service: 2 hours
Creativity: 1 hour (Spanish)
Learning Outcome: Collaboration
I went to visit an elderly home with some other students in my grade. The actual experience was probably around 1 hour - 1.5 hours, but counting the drive to the elderly home and back to school it took much longer. We went to a home for the elderly and served food and talked to the elderly people. I talked to some of the residents in Spanish. One of the residents said some stuff that I couldn't understand, so I asked one of my passing classmates to help translate. I figured it was likely that she was just speaking in a way that was hard to understand because of age, so I wasn't that surprised when he said he didn't understand what she said either. There was another old lady that I think was many peoples' favorite, because she was completely sound of mind and nice to talk to, and remembered many of us from last time! She remembered me! I talked to her for a while and she said that "me custo mucho," or it cost her a lot/it was very hard for her to move to the nursing home. She was only at the nursing home for a small reason (I think her leg) and because there was noone to take care of her at home. I felt pretty bad for her, but I said that of course, any change would be difficult. :(
