Learning Outcome: Challenges and Skills
Let me start out by saying, there were a lot of challenges with this and I seriously learned how difficult and stressful it can be to help organize something, and also the struggle that communication can be. My teacher helped students in my grade find CAS opportunities by organizing this trip. I helped her during my class with her and during my free period and part of my lunch. I was not the only student involved in the organization of this project, but I was the most involved student. There was a big issue with the fact that the bus price was high, and people wanted to uber or take the bus directly to the place we were going to instead of paying for the bus which was expensive. Another student was also involved with trying to fix this issue. My teacher explained to me that we couldn't go by uber because the trip had to be via the school, but I wanted to be sure that we couldn't do it as an out of school activity so I went and talked to the principal about the issue, and he told me that because of insurance reasons we could not go by uber or bus. Since students were wanting to just meet us there by uber and that way avoid the bus price, I asked about that, and why this has to be a school organized activity, and the principal said that it was considered a school organized activity since it was being organized by a teacher. My teacher sent me many text messages about the project, and some of them were last minute. I then passed this information on to my grade's group chat, where some students were very rude to me about the fact that the information was being passed last minute. I handed out the papers which were required by the school as permission slips. This organization was a bit stressful for me and so I would not repeat it. The good thing is I learned quite a lot about the communication and organization of these kinds of projects. I think there was a bit of a misunderstanding because in my Portuguese class we were talking about how students were worried about CAS hours, as it was the beginning of the year, so our teacher gave us this CAS opportunity, but nobody really wanted to do the organization so it was kind of stuck to her with some of my help.
